I worked in television as a Producer/Director for many years, first for the BBC and then as a successful freelancer. I’ve always been passionate about food – cooking it, eating it and sharing it with friends and family is central to my life ever since I can remember.
Over the years I got to cook in professional kitchens and although I really enjoyed my time there and learned loads about preparing, cooking and presenting food, I realised pretty quickly that the gruelling work and long hours were not for me.
Why puddings? Like mother like daughter. I have a bit of a weakness for desserts – my mother was born in Berlin and came to England as a refugee. As a continental she had superb baking skills and was an all round excellent cook. I learned plenty of cooking skills from her – I was her sous chef and it was from her that my love of cooking sprung.
Later in life friends would ask me to bring a pudding or fancy cake to their lunch parties and it went on from there. For a while I enjoyed teaching small classes in my home kitchen and writing this blog. I’ve never stopped cooking and nowadays my repertoire has expanded to take in – savoury dishes, salads, meat, fish and veggie dishes and even the odd cocktail or fermented beverage. I try to use seasonal ingredients where possible and buy meat, fish, fruit and vegetables grown or produced in the UK.
